Dr. Jennifer Russell, chief medical officer of health, said she s very hopeful taking swift action to roll the province back to orange will get the COVID-19 outbreaks under control.(Government of New Brunswick)
The province now has 110 active cases with one individual in hospital in the ICU.
Chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell regretfully fears “things will get worse before they get better.”
Dr. Russell says 97 workers are now off the job in the health care sector which is starting to strain the system.
A new outbreak has been reported in a section of the Parkland Saint John seniors complex.
Fifteen new cases have been reported at Tucker Hall – 11 residents and four staff members.
Dr. Russell says another round of mass testing will take place later this week.
Members of the Provincial Rapid Outbreak Management Team are at the complex, providing support for residents and the facility’s clinical care team.

Terri Taylor is spending her holiday season quarantined in a hotel room an hour away from her family in Fredericton.
The licensed practical nurse spent the past few weeks volunteering to help care for COVID-positive residents at Shannex Parkland Saint John.
Taylor, who works at Shannex’s Thomas Hall nursing home in Fredericton, said it was her chance to “pay it forward” after the company helped her family earlier this year.

Some good news for the Edmundston Zone 4 region just in time for Christmas.
Based on the slow growth of cases in Zone 4, New Brunswick chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell recommends a move back to the Yellow level of pandemic recovery as of 12:01 a.m. Wednesday which was accepted by the all-party cabinet COVID committee.
All of the province will now be in the Yellow level.
Public Health is reporting two new cases of COVID-19 today (December 22):
Both cases are in the Moncton Zone 1 region and are said to be self-isolating:
someone in their 20s which is a contact of a previous case
