Stoneham to revitalize Clara Steele playground Community Content The town of Stoneham recently began the revitalization of the Clara Steele playground into a state-of-the-art play area for the community. Located behind Stoneham Town Hall, and known as Munchkin Park by many in the Stoneham community, Steele Playground was selected for a much needed facelift as result of the Stoneham’s 2018 Open Space and Recreation Plan. The revitalization project will provide residents with a new, ADA-compliant playground which will showcase multiple climbing structures, companion swings, rotating rope climbers and several sensory components. This playground project was made possible after the town was awarded a Parkland Acquisitions and Renovations for Community grant in the amount of $100,000 from the Massachusetts Division of Conservation Services. The Stoneham Capital Committee also allocated funding towards the betterment of the playground.

Mayor Roxann Wedegartner said she is committed to building the long-awaited skate park. The city had one at the back of what is now Olive Street Apartments, but it was dismantled in 2010 to make way for that project. Though Mark Zaccheo renovated the building and built a parking lot where the skate park once stood, he and his wife have been avid supporters of building a new skate park.
