Jonathan Barada joins IU Ventures as vice president

Barada has been named vice president at IU Ventures, an affiliate of Indiana University that helps students, faculty, staff and alumni advance new, high-potential venture opportunities. Barada’s responsibilities include strategy development, stakeholder engagement and fundraising coordination for the IU Philanthropic Venture Fund. The evergreen fund uses a donated pool of capital to make equity investments in early-stage companies with strong ties to IU. Since March 2018, the fund has invested $7.9 million in 18 companies. Barada joined the IU Ventures team in January with a strong background in philanthropic fundraising, most recently in his role as president and CEO of Bloomington Health Foundation, where he served since 2013. In his time there, Barada led several successful campaigns, including the expansion of IU Health Bloomington Hospital’s Hospice

Deputy Mayor Mick Renneisen Plans April Retirement

Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton has announced that Deputy Mayor Mick Renneisen plans to retire from his position on April 23 after four decades of service to the City of Bloomington and the community. Mayor Hamilton appointed Renneisen as deputy mayor in January 2016, when Renneisen was serving as administrator of the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation Department. “After 40 years of public service, it’s time for me to retire and spend more time with my family,” says Renneisen. “When I started as the Parks and Recreation Department’s Sports Coordinator on April 20, 1981, I never imagined that I would work for the City of Bloomington for 40 years. I’m fortunate to have served our community in various roles during the tenures of four mayors over the course of four decades.”

IU Health Administers 20,000th COVID-19 Vaccine

Photo courtesy of IU Health Indiana University Health began administering COVID-19 vaccines to south-central Indiana Hoosiers on December 18 of last year. On Friday, January 29, they administered their 20,000th vaccine. “While the numbers are important, the [vaccination] team is also credited with making this process quick and efficient for their scheduled appointments,” says Robin Lasek, public relations manager for IU Health, South Central Region. Currently, Hoosiers age 65 and up are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna. In Monroe County, vaccination sites include IU Health Bloomington Hospital and the Monroe County Convention Center. Any Monroe County residents interested in claiming possible unused doses of the Moderna vaccine can sign up for the weekly standby list here.

City of Bloomington Announces Report on Hospital Site Redevelopment

The City of Bloomington has published the master plan report for redevelopment of the current Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital site. In 2018, the City contracted to purchase the 24-acre site in order to strengthen the downtown area with jobs and affordable housing, and to pursue additional community goals for sustainability, equity, and inclusion. The plan provides a broad, overall framework for the site’s redevelopment, focused on the 24 acres but also connecting with the wider area, to frame and align future decisions with the community’s goals.
