Bataan is historically known as one of the provinces last conquered by the Japanese during World War II. The infamous “Death March” that claimed the lives of more than 10,000 Filipino and American soldiers also took place here. But apart from being the cradle of heroes, Bataan is also one of the remaining places considered home to the indigenous Aeta.

The Department on Information and Communications Technology (DICT) plans to invest in common telecommunications towers to expand mobile services to underserved areas of the country.
“DICT wishes to invest in common towers for missionary sites, complete with radio access network and Internet Protocol back haul,” DICT Undersecretary for Digital Philippines Emmanuel Rey R. Caintic said in a posted update of Telecom Tower Watch,
Caintic said they are working with Congress on legislation allowing DICT to utilize untapped funds from the Spectrum Users Fee reserved for FREE WIFI for Public Places for digital infrastructure which in turn “will allow us to build common infrastructure in commercially unviable places hungry for cellular signals.”

Despite quarantine challenges, Globe Telecom Inc. today (May 3) reported it is on track with its 5G rollout for the 1st quarter of 2021, having expanded to 1,383 sites in the National Capital Rwgion ( NCR) Bacolod, Boracay, Cebu, Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro and Davao as of end-March.
The telco is likewise on track with its cell site target and has installed 318 new cell towers nationwide, along with 20 stand alone in-building solutions (IBS) in the same period.
However, “While our numbers are good for the first quarter of the year, there is still a lot more work to be done,” acknowledged Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Program Delivery, Network Technical Group.

Globe is banking on gaming and related content to enhance customer experience and maximize revenue stream.
Speaking during the panel discussion titled “Revenue Opportunities in Video Gaming for Telco and Content Providers” at the Asia Video Industry Association (AVIA) OTT Summit 2021, Nikko Acosta, Globe Senior Vice President for Content Business and Product Management said telcos and gaming providers need to work together to make sure the needs of the customer are addressed.
Globe is currently exploring new business models with gaming partners on revenue sharing and for customer satisfaction. “We are always open for a new one. And that really depends on what the partner can bring into the discussion and in the ecosystem, as well as what Globe can bring accordingly as we see and mutualize our values together. So, it’s one team playing in this ecosystem to take care of the customers,” he said.
