The Australian government’s new national vaccination advertisements have been described as exciting as a bowl of leftover cereal, with all the urgency of a stubbed toe.
“It will be very difficult for Shaun Micallef to send this ad up,” said Opposition leader Anthony Albanese when asked about them on Sunday morning television.
He’s not wrong.
The “Arm Yourself” campaign featuring various upper arms showing a bandaid and iterations of the same message to arm “yourself”, “your family”, “your community” could easily come from a presentation by Karsten Leith, the kravat-wearing marketing consultant in the ABC comedy series Utopia.

Singapore Appearing on CNN in an interview about how Singapore was using pop songs to encourage citizens to get vaccinated, an amused Vivian Balakrishnan described the Phua Chu Kang song ‘Get your shot, Steady Pom Pi Pi’ as “corny but effective”.
The news channel’s presenter Julia Chatterley brought up the viral music video during an interview on a CNN live show aired on May 27 with Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.

infectious disco number. In his trademark yellow boots, curly hair and mole, Phua Chu Kang works to persuade Rosie to get her shot, while allaying common fears about Covid-19 vaccinations. And of course, what’s a PSA fronted by Phua Chu Kang without copious amounts of Singlish and iconic phrases like “steady pom pi pi” and “your mother never teach you meh?”.
