BHUBANESWAR: Detection of Covid cases in educational institutions has created a challenge for the state government. If the cases increase, the pandemic will disrupt planned syllabi and exam schedule.
The BJB Autonomous College here on Monday issued a notice regarding the detection of a Covid case on campus. A student from the commerce stream of the junior college tested positive on Saturday. The college has advised students who have come in contact with the infected person to isolate themselves for at least seven days and go for RT-PCR test.

Bhubaneswar: Speaker Surya Narayan Patro on Saturday suspended three BJP MLAs Jayanarayan Mishra, Bishnu Charan Sethi and Mohan Majhi till the end of the budget session after shoes, earphone and a pen were hurled at him during proceedings of the house earlier in the day.
The session, which was scheduled till April 9, was later adjourned sine die five days ahead of schedule.
Government chief whip Pramila Mallick told reporters outside the assembly that Jayanarayan and Bishnu had thrown shoes at the speaker while Mohan had flung the pen.

BHUBANESWAR: The Centre has approved the construction of a bypass for Berhampur town, which will connect Ratnapur with Narendrapur on National Highway-59, with an investment of around Rs 197 crore.
Union minister of road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari took to Twitter to inform about the approval of the proposed bypass, along with two other projects, with a total investment of around Rs 490 crore.
Officials said the 13-km bypass, including a four-lane railway overbridge (ROB), will help decongest Berhampur town by diverting traffic. Around 88 hectares of land, both government and privately-owned ones, will be required for the project.
The Odisha government has recently restricted the number of people at the marriage gatherings to 200 for all over the state.
BHUBANESWAR: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday issued an order to revise the cap on social gatherings in its area. It has allowed maximum 100 people in marriage related functions.
The BMC took this decision in view of rising coronavirus cases.
The Odisha government has recently restricted the number of people at the marriage gatherings to 200 for all over the state.
For death rituals related functions, the maximum number of people allowed in the BMC area is 50 with adherence to Covid appropriate behaviour and social distancing.

BHUBANESWAR: The state government on Saturday announced to enforce night curfew in 10 western Odisha districts from Monday till further orders in view of rising Covid infections.
Between 10pm and 5am, all shops, commercial establishments, offices, institutions will remain closed while movement of people will be prohibited in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri which are in close proximity of Chhattisgarh. The restrictions won’t apply to emergency services, industrial and construction activities, the order issued by chief secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra said.
