Significantly modeled off a similar measure in California, HB 969, the Florida Privacy Protection Act, would have imposed new disclosure requirements on companies that collect information from anyone who downloads an app or uses a website.

To embed, copy and paste the code into your website or blog: With just over two full days left in the current Florida legislative session, the Florida House and Senate continue to play tug-of-war over their respective bills for comprehensive data privacy reform in Florida. The Florida House passed its bill, HB 969, on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, moving HB 969 into the Florida Senate for consideration. In response, the Florida Senate passed a strike-all amendment that shredded HB 969 in its entirety, and replaced it with a modified version of the Senate’s bill, SB 1734. Florida Senator Jennifer Bradley, a Republican who represents District 5 in Northern Florida, filed the Senate’s amendment Wednesday morning. The ball is now back in the House’s court for final negotiations before the legislative session ends on Friday.
