The threat of strong storms and heavy rain for Friday has led to the cancellation of Florida State University’s Homecoming parade.
This year’s Homecoming Parade, scheduled for 2-3 p.m. Friday, was not going to include a route near the campus, where spectators have traditionally lined the streets for a better view. Instead, it evolved into a “reverse parade” for people to drive through at the Tucker Civic Center parking lot.
“With the weather forecast in mind, we did not feel safe holding an outdoor event in potential thunderstorms,” Christina Archipolo of the FSU Alumni Association said in a Thursday evening email.
For the first time ever, Florida State University’s Homecoming will be during this year’s spring semester from April 5-10. With the week of festivities less than a month away, all hands are on deck as the university prepares the event s success.
Homecoming Spring 2021 is a result of Homecoming 2020 being postponed during the fall semester of last year to alleviate the spread of COVID-19. The safety measures implemented at FSU to allow individuals to safely gather in a traditional sense make it possible for this year’s lineup to include many of the events that have usually taken place in past Homecomings.
