A Florida man faces aggravated child abuse and other charges after hurling his infant at a deputy near the end of a high-speed chase, the Indian River County Sheriff's Office said.
Valerie Young, 52, Delia s aunt, was charged with manslaughter, tampering with or destroying evidence, failure to provide medical attention and aggravated child abuse.
Delia s guardian, Marian Glovina Williams, 57, of 507 NW 192nd Ave., was charged with negligent manslaughter of a child/accessory after the fact, neglect of a child with great bodily harm, refusing medical care as the condition worsens and concealing physical evidence.
Forgey said he believes the Florida Department of Children and Families had previous contact with the family.
“I think they have but I don’t know to what extent,” Forgey said. “We got some messages from different people saying they had interaction with Delia, noticed things and reported it to DCF. I think there is some history.”
A 14-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy in Florida face attempted murder charges in the shooting, which led the sheriff to rail against what he called a broken juvenile justice system.
