Monadnock Ledger-Transcript Published: 6/11/2021 11:31:08 AM Wilton voters raised the proposed budget by $30,000 for increased police salaries to attract and retain police officers during Town Meeting on Thursday Wilton voters met outside on Thursday evening in front of Florence Rideout Elementary School, to complete the in-person Town Meeting, which was set at a later date than usual due to COVID-19 considerations.  The first matter of business for the town was the budget, set this year at $5,259,397. However, after an introduction to the proposed budget, Police Chief Eric Olesen proposed a $30,000 addition, to be used for police salaries. He said police departments across the state are in a “critical situation” in trying to hire and retain officers.

The two candidates spoke about their goals during a Candidates’ Night, hosted virtually by the Wilton Lions Club, on Tuesday night, where residents asked about their priorities and views on proposed conservation and improvement projects. Fish, who is completing his first term on the board this year, runs an excavation business as well as running his family farm. In addition to his service on the Select Board, he’s also been a 19-year member of the Planning Board. “I feel my track record is self-explanatory, having dealt with a steady hand, been compassionate to those in need,” Fish said.

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript Published: 2/26/2021 11:24:58 AM Wilton has created a new position for a deputy town administrator, and promoted Administrative Assistant Janice Pack to the position. The board has been notified by its current Town Administrator Paul Branscombe that he intends to retire at the end of 2021. During the Select Board meeting on Monday, Select Board Chair Matt Fish said the creation of the position was to allow “provide operational flexibility.” When asked if the intent was to train Pack for the position of town administrator when Branscombe leaves, Fish said the town still intended to go through with a job search process.

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript Published: 2/3/2021 5:16:52 PM A local business has donated $2,000 to replace eight swings, including one for infants and a swing with an accessible seat, for the Florence Rideout Elementary School. “Refurbishing the FRES playground has been a topic for some time and the Parent Teacher Organization has been holding fundraisers to try to help with the costs,” FRES Principal Bob Laroche said. “While they focus on funds for a replacement slide, another local business stepped in and offered to pay for the cost of new swings.” Currently, the FRES playground is missing two out of eight swings on its current set. MD’s Recycling and Waste, owned by Casey and Alexa Delage, has offered the funds to replace not only the missing swings, but the entire set – including making the swingset more accessible for everyone who uses the playground.
