Flintstone House owner will be able to keep the cartoon inspired additions | 98 7 The River

By Mark Robertson Photo: Getty Images After a few years of fighting, a woman in Hillsborough, California finally won the battle to keep her strange-looking house just as it is. The town decided to allow the house, which is designed to look like it’s out of “The Flintstones,” to keep additions recently made to the property. The town had previously taken owner Florence Fang to court, claiming she had violated local codes. Her front yard features metal sculptures of dinosaurs, statues of the cartoon characters from the show, and more. The town argued these items were eyesores. When Fang ignored the town’s stop-work orders back in 2019, the town sued her, and she, in turn, sued them back. A decision last week was made that will allow Fang to keep her new yard additions, but that she will have to apply for building permits while the town will review and approve various landscaping improvements. The town will also reportedly pay Fang $125,000.

Figurines of Barney and Betty Rubble stand outside the Flintstone House in Hillsborough, California. An attorney for the town previously said residents are required to get a permit before installing such sculptures, regardless of the theme. Hillsborough went to court in 2019 after Fang failed to comply with multiple stop-work orders, as well as an order to remove the features around the multimillion-dollar property with its 254-square-metre home. Fang counter-sued. Eric Risberg/AP Technically, the owner of the fanciful Flintstones house in a posh San Francisco suburb settled a lawsuit with the town of Hillsborough. But the agreement will allow Fred and his friends to remain.
