No growth for Meadow Fire after starting from a prescribed burn

No growth for Meadow Fire after starting from a prescribed burn Goal is 75% containment by Friday night. Posted: May 7, 2021 11:44 AM Updated: May 7, 2021 11:59 AM Posted By: Mike Zacchino Wildfire monitors say today the Meadow Fire in Klamath County experienced no growth overnight. Friday’s report from the South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership updated the fire’s size as 832 acres. The Partnership is reporting the Fire’s containment at 50% Friday morning, and its Incident Commander Troy Parrish says crew work on the fire line today could achieve 75% containment by tonight. The Partnership says the Meadow Fire grew out of the North 2 Prescribed Fire Wednesday approximately five miles northeast of Chiloquin. It converted to a wildfire that day about 12:30pm “when fire behavior and intensity grew more than was planned for and the decision was made to order more resources. This ensured it could be extinguished quickly to keep the community safe.”

CHILOQUIN, Ore. – A prescribed burn north of Upper Klamath Lake that turned into a wildfire is nearing containment. On Tuesday, May 4, the North 2 Prescribed Fire project was ignited five miles northwest of Chiloquin. The plan was to treat up to 4,000 acres, with 345 acres completed before dry conditions and low humidity increased fire behavior, forcing the Chiloquin Ranger District of the Fremont-Winema National Forest to convert the prescribed fire to a wildfire dubbed the “Meadow Fire.” The wildfire declaration was made in order to make aircraft and other resources available to curtail it as quickly as possible. The Meadow Fire remains in the planned prescription area, according to the South Central Oregon Fire Management Partnership.
