Work was underway Tuesday at 875 Sutton Way in Grass Valley following the demolition of the former Paulette’s Country Kitchen building.
Paulette’s Country Kitchen closed its doors mid-March, around a month after the proposal for a Wendy’s restaurant was presented at a Grass Valley Planning Commission meeting.
According to a January staff report from the city’s Development Review Committee, the Wendy’s project was planned to include the construction of a 2,366-square-foot restaurant building, along with a drive-thru and outdoor seating area.
The report cited the project architect as having found that demolition rather than modification of the existing building was the economical way forward, given the extent of the changes that would have been necessary to meet certain codes as well as Wendy’s functional design criteria. For example, the drive-thru not allowing appropriate distance between ordering, payment, and distribution, according to the report.
After having its license suspended late last year following numerous complaints, Grass Valley’s 1849 Brewing Co. will now be allowed to expand its hours and its beer garden.
On Tuesday the Grass Valley Planning Commission approved a use permit amendment allowing the bar to stay open an extra hour. Its new hours will be 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Last October the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) suspended the bar’s alcohol license for 45 days for operating a “Disorderly Premises,” citing allegations of public drunkenness, fights, assaults, reports of illegal drugs, public urination and noise complaints.
Progress marches on, whether we like it or not.
The latest take on progress for Grass Valley comes in the form of a Wendy’s a fast food burger chain that plans on demolishing Paulette’s Country Kitchen and installing a drive-thru.
It’s one of those developments that has half the community shrugging its shoulders and the other half either outraged or already prepping for a burger run.
After all, it’s a burger joint. What’s the big deal?
Well, turns out it’s a beefy deal to a lot of folks, and one you won’t just find in Nevada County.
Fans of Frostys and square burgers will be able to get their Baconator fix in Grass Valley.
The Grass Valley Planning Commission on Tuesday voted unanimously to approve development of a Wendy’s drive-thru restaurant at 875 Sutton Way.
The fast food chain will demolish and replace the building that is now Paulette’s Country Kitchen, reducing the size and adding 250 feet of outdoor eating space.
Owner of Paulette’s, Paulette Rickard, said last month that she is selling the building and retiring after 30 years.
Wendy’s will join at least a half dozen other fast food chain restaurants in what’s sometimes known as Grass Valley’s “BurgerBasin”
