Three family members hurt in Semporna house fire

KOTA KINABALU: Three family members were injured during a fire that broke out at their house. This was due to a gas leak when transferring petrol at the vicinity in Semporna on Monday (May 10). Tawau Fire and Rescue team rushed to the scene following a distress call from the hardcore poor housing project (PPRT) unit in Kampung Hampalan, Pulau Bum Bum at 2.54pm. A man and his teenage daughter sustained minor burns, while another sustained 50% burns on her body and legs. Ninety percent of the house was damaged during the incident, said the Tawau Fire and Rescue Department in a statement on Tuesday (May 11).

Semporna Balimbang Hired Boat Operators Association Chairman Nasir Abu Bakar said the initiative was agreed upon by the 75 boat operators who regarded the new move as apt during the current situation. “We are adversely affected by the MCO and the standard operating procedure (SOP) set while there are lesser passengers now. As we understand the situation, we decided to implement the concept of taking turns (to (ferry passengers), so all will have about the same income,” he said.
