GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) scored its biggest drug haul in its 13 years of operations when it seized 2,118kg of methamphetamine worth RM105.9 million and detained a man and a recreation boat, 5.3 nautical miles south of Pulau Kendi, near Teluk Kumbar, on Wednesday (Dec 9).
Its Director-General Datuk Mohd Zubil Mat Som said the agency detected the white and blue recreation boat with yellow lines which appeared suspicious, operated by the man, in Pulau Kendi waters at 11.30am.
GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has foiled an attempt to smuggle 2,118kg of methamphetamine worth RM105.9mil into the country, the second success within a week.
The seizure on Dec 9 is also the largest ever recorded by any enforcement agency in the country.
On Dec 3, the agency arrested two foreigners and seized drugs worth RM10.53mil off the western coast of Penang.
MMEA director-general Admiral (Maritime) Datuk Mohd Zubil Mat Som said a team on a routine Ops Pertiwi patrol detected a white and blue recreational boat near Pulau Kendi, which appeared suspicious, operated by a man at about 11.30am.
