Authorities have announced they identified the body of a woman through DNA matching 40 years to the day after the body was initially found in Missouri.
PULASKI COUNTY - After exactly 40 years of investigation, the Pulaski County Sheriff s Department, with help from the DNA Doe Project, have been to identify the body of Karen Kay Knippers.
Knippers was the victim of a homicide and her body was found on May 25, 1981 in a low water crossing near Dixon, Missouri.Â
At the time she was found, her body was unable to be identified. She was buried in the Waynesville Cemetery under the name Jane Doe.
In 2012, Knippers profile was entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. After she was entered in the system, DJ Renno, a detective with the Pulaski County Sheriff s Department, reopened the investigation.

MOUND CITY (WSIL) Illinois State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Tuesday night in Mound City.
On Tuesday, around 10 p.m., ISP was requested by the Pulaski County Sheriff s Department to investigate a shooting that occurred in the 700 block of Pearl Street.
In the wake of a fire at a home earlier in the evening, a Pulaski County deputy was at the scene investigating. ISP says a brief physical altercation with several people and the deputy took place when they attempted to obstruct the investigation.
The deputy eventually detained a woman and placed her in the back seat of his squad car. While the deputy was taking a second person into custody, an unknown suspect shot in the deputy s direction.

On Tuesday, May 18, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation – Zone 7 was requested by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department to investigate a shooting which had occurred in the 700 block of Pearl Street in Mound City.
Earlier in the evening, a Pulaski County deputy was conducting an investigation at the scene of a fire at a residence on Pearl Street.
A brief physical altercation occurred involving the deputy several individuals attempting to obstruct the investigation. The deputy eventually detained a female, placing her in the back seat of his squad car.
