MUMBAI: Western Railway (WR) and Central Railway (CR) suburban trains have become less crowded, compared to previous weeks, as a rise in coronavirus cases has forced many employees and employers to revert to ‘work from home’. General passengers have been permitted to travel by suburban trains during off-peak hours from February 1.
Card ticket sale data for CR reveals that tickets sold since February 23 have gone below four lakh for the first time. Only twice this month CR registered sale of card tickets below this, that too in the first week after opening services for general passengers. On WR, around 3.3 lakh tickets were sold.
Local train services in Mumbai also got delayed due to the incident
MUMBAI: Two coaches of Bandra Terminus (BDTS) - Ramnagar express decoupled between Andheri-Jogeshwari, affecting the punctuality of train services on Thursday morning.
WR s chief public relations officer Sumit Thakur said, Train no 09075 BDTS Ramnagar Express runs with LHB rake. Two coaches, which were in lock condition, at the rear end of the train decoupled near Jogeshwari. Nobody was injured in the incident.
The incident happened at around 5.30am and track was cleared by 6.40am after re-coupling of coaches.
WR said that due to this incident trains were running 15 to 20 minutes behind schedule.
Many point to the fact that the State government has allowed 100% occupancy in public transport services as a good enough reason to do away with the restrictions
