DELSU VC Assures Institution s Commitment to Research of Neglected Tropical Disease

By Sylvester Idowu The Vice Chancellor Delta State University, Prof Andy Ogochukwu Egwuyenga has assured of the institution’s commitment to research of Neglected Tropical Disease (NTDs). Prof Egwuyenga stated this when he received members of Parasitology and Public Health Society of Nigeria (PPSN) and Delta State Primary Health Care Development Agency (DSPHCDA) in his office on courtesy visit as part of activities marking this year’s world NTDs day. The university head said “as an institution we value research, most of our lecturers and student have been engaging in research which have gained international recognition”. He further stated that the university takes NTDs seriously and gives priority attention to it as the diseases are of high socio-economic impact.

Merck set to host Bilharzia Storytelling Lab in Kenya Shares Merck has announced a plan to host its first Bilharzia Storytelling Lab in Kenya. The lab is a three-day workshop bringing together 30 Kenyan community leaders and storytellers. The participants will be working on the task to develop new innovative ways of storytelling to empower and inform risk groups on prevention and or treatment of bilharzia. More than 240 million people worldwide require treatment for the Neglected Tropical Disease (NTDs) bilharzia (also known as schistosomiasis or snail fever). It is estimated that 200,000 people die from the consequences of their long-term infections each year.
