COLLEGE STATION, TX â All Texas A&M students living on campus for the upcoming spring semester must be tested for COVID-19 before January 22, according to university leadership.
President Michael K. Young and Provost Carol A. Fierke made the announcement in a letter to students Monday.
Before the start of the spring semester, the university is requiring all students, whether they are attending classes in-person or online, to complete an online COVID-19 Training and Certification no later than January 13.
In an effort to curb the spread of COVID-19 on campus, Texas A&M will require all faculty and staff to test for the coronavirus before returning to campus.
In an email sent out Dec. 14, President Michael K. Young and Provost Carol A. Fierke said that all faculty, staff, part-time employees, student workers and graduate assistants will be required to test for COVID-19 before returning for the spring 2021 semester. According to the email, all employees must receive a test between Jan. 2 and Jan. 12 either on campus or from their medical provider. Test results must be uploaded to A&Mâs COVID-19 Testing Program portal by Jan. 15.
When students returned to Texas A&M for the fall 2020 semester, the university experienced a surge in positive COVID-19 cases. Under the advice of public health experts, A&M administrators are looking to better manage this surge when classes return in the spring.
According to a university-wide email from A&M President Michael K. Young and Provost Carol A. Fierke, Texas A&M will require all students residing in university housing on campus to test for COVID-19 before Jan. 22.
âYour active participation now and when you return at the beginning of the year is essential to not only help keep yourselves and others safe, but also to help our area hospitals meet demand this winter,â the email states.
