Apr. 6 A collision between a motorcycle and a pickup truck has shut down South Meridian through South Hill in both directions Tuesday afternoon.
The wreck is between 39th Avenue SW and 43rd Avenue SW, Puyallup police said. It occurred around 1:15 p.m.
The motorcycle driver, a 44-year-old man, was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to Puyallup Police Capt. Dan Pashon.
The resulting investigation will impact the evening commute.
The man driving the truck was not injured. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be contributing factors, Pashon said.
At least two people were injured when a police officer responding to a report of a street race plowed his car through a crowd of pedestrians that had gathered around him and were pounding on the car's windows in downtown Tacoma on Saturday night, officials said.
Police officer who hit pedestrian with patrol car placed on administrative leave
ABCNews A Tacoma Police Department officer who struck at least one pedestrian with his patrol car while trying to clear a crowded scene has been placed on administrative leave.
Officers responded to the intersection of South 9th Street and Pacific Avenue in Tacoma around 6 p.m. Saturday night after receiving numerous reports of an incident that was occurring there, according to a police press release.
When authorities arrived, there were several vehicles and about 100 people blocking the intersection, police said, but did not provide additional details on the incident. According to ABC Seattle affiliate KOMO, the crowd was watching a street sideshow.
Video posted on social media shows the police car hitting several people and running over at least one person.
“He had tire marks all over his body,” witness Cory Le told KTBS-TV. “Belly out. His shoes were off. Honestly, it was like something out of a movie.”
Tacoma police spokesperson Wendy Haddow told the newspaper that police were notified shortly after 6 p.m. of the street racers.
Haddow said a responding officer used his car’s bullhorn to address the crowd. The crowd then began pounding on his windows, she said.
“The officer, fearing for his safety, tried to back up, but was unable to do so because of the crowd,” Tacoma Police said in a statement. That prompted him to speed out of the scene for his own safety, police said.
