Lytham town crier Colin Ballard and his St Annes counterpart John Barnes signalled the start from the Lytham boathouse for Phil Walker, crew members and a group of other early participants.
Locally-based Paralympian Shelly Woods also showed her support.

Phil said: “It’s a great charity and deserves our support. The RNLI crew do a great job and I hope lots of people will take part through the month.”
Stormy Stan
While working as a special agent in counterintelligence for the U.S. Air Force (USAF), Stormy Stan changed course to make a greater impact on people’s lives. She decided to pursue medicine and enrolled in the School of Medicine’s PRIME (Post-baccalaureate Readiness Instruction for bioMedical Education) program.
“My life is completely different than it was five years ago,” Stan said. “For me, medicine is the highest calling. It’s where I want to spend my energy, and I am so grateful to be on this path.”
Stan graduated from the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs with a bachelor’s degree in political science and foreign area studies and a minor in Chinese. During that time, she spent summers studying abroad in Shanghai, Beijing and Vietnam.
Flamborough RNLI crew going the extra miles to raise vital funds during May
As part of the RNLI Mayday fundraising event, the Mayday Mile, the volunteer crew at Flamborough is aiming to collectively cover 205 miles next month.

The month-long event will commence at 10am on Saturday May 1, when mascot Stormy Stan will walk between Flamborough lifeboat station at South Landing and the lighthouse at Flamborough Head.
As part of the RNLI Mayday fundraising event, the Mayday Mile, the volunteer crew at Flamborough is aiming to collectively cover 205 miles next month.
Flamborough Lifeboat covered a total of 205 operational miles last year and crew members plan to match this in a variety of ways, including walking, running, cycling, swimming and sailing.
