Her most recent female-focused biography was the remarkable and very talented, Carrie Fisher – that left this world too soon. Anthony Ascione from Brilliant Books in Traverse City gives us a look inside this inspiring book.

“My First Day by Phung Nguyen Quang & Huynh Kim Lien is based on the children who live in the Mekong Delta,” said book aficionado, Anthony Ascione. “And, many of the school-aged children have to take a canoe in order to get to class”.
My First Day takes readers on an imaginary ride-a-long with the main character who is nervous about going to school. “He pretends that he’s hitting huge waves, and paddling over hundreds of schools of fish”. Anthony also added that this book is a good read for children who are nervous about school themselves.

Reading can be so rewarding, especially for children. And, no matter what literary level they are, there’s always a good book out there for everyone and every age. Friend of ‘the four’, Anthony Asicone from Brilliant Books shared how one adventurous story without words encourages youth as young as toddlers to enjoy books.

The Midnight Fair by Gideon Sterer is one that my coworker, Rachel recommended to me,” said Anthony. “She is our resident children’s book expert and so she knows all of the really good ones”. According to Anthony,
The Midnight Fair is really notable because there are no words. The illustrations are by Mariachiara Di Giorgio, and they are gorgeous, but, again, there is no text in this book at all so you can sort of follow the story even if you don’t know how to read”.
