「はらぺこあおむし」などの作品で知られ、今年5月に91歳で亡くなった、絵本作家のエリック・カールさん。多くの読者の支持を受けた作品だけでなく、温かいその人柄でも接した人を魅了していました。交流のあった絵本編集者の末盛千枝子さん（80）に、思い出を語ってもらいました。
すえもり・ちえこ 絵本の編集者を経て、1988年に出版社「すえもりブックス」を設立。国際児童図書評議会（IBBY）国際理事も務めた。2010年に岩手県八幡平市に移住。父は彫刻家の舟越保武。著書に「人生に大切なことはすべて絵本から教わった」など。
