Pastoring Fifty-Two Weeks Without Large In-Person Gatherings

Daniel Yang Image: Unsplash/Samantha Borges In normal circumstances, it would be almost inconceivable to ask pastors to suspend their church’s in-person large weekend gatherings for fifty-two weeks. But for some across North America, this past weekend marks one entire year since that’s happened in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Of course, since the start of the pandemic, there have been a small number of churches that never stopped meeting. And by now, a large number of churches have already resumed their in-person gatherings in some capacity. But there are still some churches that have not returned for the sake of their community, and there’s no doubt that not holding large in-person gatherings for a year will have a tremendous effect on how pastors minister, especially post-pandemic.

Courtesy photo As Dallas-Fort Worth residents continue to grapple with power outages and brave brutally cold temperatures, many city buildings, churches, and nonprofits are opening their doors as warming shelters. Here is a running list of places where people can go to warm up, rest, and charge electronic devices. The list will be updated as more are announced. Dallas The City of Dallas has a map of warming centers on its website. Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas, at 650 S. Griffin St., is home to a warming center opened by the city of Dallas. It s located in Exhibit Hall A. Residents can enter on Canton Street (pass the guard shack and The Black Academy of Arts and Letters). Residents will be provided a chair and table. Water, coffee, and lights snacks will be available, but residents are advised to bring in meals

Food box distribution today on Providence Boulevard

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – USDA food boxes are being given away today on Providence Boulevard. The boxes are being distributed by You Been Blessed, a local nonprofit organized by Dwight Jemison and Latanya Jackson, at 315 Providence Blvd., near Little’s Fish Market. They will be distributing every Wednesday until they run out, for as long as the USDA continues to send boxes.
