The two hospitality veterans have both spent time working in notable New York restaurants, with Tracy serving as sous chef and Arjav as manager at the popular Grammercy Tavern, and met while working at United at the Whitney, the museum restaurant operated by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group for almost a decade.
Despite their fine dining pedigrees, Birdie’s will be a casual, counter service restaurant. Tracy has not finalized her menu but says diners should expect simple American cuisine that takes culinary cues from Italy and France. The wine list, overseen by Arjav will, like the food menu, take a seasonal approach that responds to Austin’s intense heat.

While a lot of things in Texas have been open for business for a while (and certainly are allowed to be, under Gov. Greg Abbott s March order opening the state), plenty of people have kept close to home as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
There s hope in sight. As of early last week, more than 8.4 million Texans had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and of those, almost 4.9 million people have been fully vaccinated, according to state health officials. And as folks get their shots, they re likely to resume some of their pre-pandemic habits.

There wasn t a lot of summer to be had in 2020. Maybe 2021 will be different. Pool passes are now available at Austin Motel, the iconic destination on South Congress Avenue with a kidney-shaped swimming hole.
Reservations are required. Pool passes are available for three-hour blocks from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. They cost $20 per person Monday-Thursday and $40 per person Friday-Sunday. The pool is taking reservations through October.
