Valencia County, NM – On Monday, January 25, 2021 the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was contacted to investigate a police shooting involving the Los Lunas Police Department (LLPD).
On January 25, 2021, at approximately 8:05 a.m., LLPD officers conducted a traffic stop on a blue Ford Expedition parked near the intersection of South Camelot Boulevard and Morris Road in Los Lunas, NM. As officers approached the Expedition, they observed a male subject armed with a handgun inside the vehicle. The male subject refused to exit his vehicle and barricaded himself inside his vehicle. A short time later, the male subject exited his vehicle and ran west towards Interstate 25.

Ruidoso Downs, NM - On Friday, January 15, 2021, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was requested by the Ruidoso Downs Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred at 222 Mockingbird Lane in Ruidoso Downs. The suspect had not been struck by gunfire and all officers were uninjured.
State Police Investigations Bureau agents learned that on January 15, 2021, at around 4:50 a.m., the Twelfth Judicial District Attorney’s Major Crimes Unit responded to a crime scene in Ruidoso. The suspect in that incident Trevor D. Hoyle, 26, of Ruidoso, fled the scene in a white Ford pickup truck.

Espanola, NM -On Friday, December 18, 2020, at approximately 8:09 p.m., the Espanola Police Department (EPD) was dispatched to 1332 Holy Cross Street in Espanola, for an abandoned vehicle with its lights on in the roadway. When EPD officers arrived on scene, they located a male victim with a single gunshot wound to the chest in a black Mercedes. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The male victim was later identified as Saul Martinez (30) of Espanola, NM.
During the initial investigation, EPD detectives learned Mr. Martinez was shot in his vehicle at 145 El Llano Road in Espanola, New Mexico. After the shooting Martinez was transported in his vehicle and left on Holy Cross Street. El Llano Road is outside of EPD’s jurisdiction. ESPAÑOLA – Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, at approximately 8:09 p.m., the Española Police Department (EPD) was dispatched to 1332 Holy Cross St., in Española, for an abandoned vehicle with its lights on in the roadway.
