Sara Jacobs, granddaughter of New Bedford benefactor, sworn in to Congress
Standard-Times
Sara Jacobs, granddaughter of New Bedford native and Qualcomm founder Irwin M. Jacobs, was sworn in this week, the youngest member of the California Congressional delegation.
Jacobs, 31, a Democrat, is a first-term member from San Diego, and told USA TODAY she was really excited and honored to be in the Capitol for her swearing-in, even though the incoming House Democratic freshman class was smaller than we had hoped. She brought her father as her sole guest.
Jacobs grandfather is a major benefactor for New Bedford. An elementary school in the far South End was named for him in 2017.
