Sara Jacobs, granddaughter of New Bedford benefactor, sworn in to Congress

Sara Jacobs, granddaughter of New Bedford native and Qualcomm founder Irwin M. Jacobs, was sworn in this week, the youngest member of the California Congressional delegation.
Jacobs, 31, a Democrat, is a first-term member from San Diego, and told USA TODAY she was "really excited and honored" to be in the Capitol for her swearing-in, even though the incoming House Democratic freshman class was "smaller than we had hoped." She brought her father as her sole guest.
Jacobs' grandfather is a major benefactor for New Bedford. An elementary school in the far South End was named for him in 2017.
