Separate kidnapping attempts has Hill Country grandmother concerned

SAN ANTONIO It was a calm afternoon in the small town of Bandera, but for one grandmother, her mind is still reeling from the chaos that unfolded several days ago.
“You wonder why… what are they doing? What’s the point of them being there? What are their intentions? Laurie Blanchard said.
She s referring a thwarted kidnapping incident involving her granddaughter. According to the Bandera County Sheriff s Office, someone tried to pick up the young girl last Wednesday from a daycare in the Pipe Creek area. The suspect somehow knew her name.
The New Braunfels Police Department said Tuesday it is investigating a âpossible attempted kidnappingâ Friday afternoon at Fischer Park.Â
âThe NBPD did take a report (on the incident) as a summer camp was releasing children for the day,â said David Ferguson, city communications coordinator, reading NBPDâs release on the incident that is being probed by the departmentâs criminal investigations division.
Camp workers said two people tried to pick up children from the Fischer Park Nature Camp but drove away after staffers noticed their names did not match identification cards assigned to the children, news reports said.Â
âWe want to make you aware of an incident at the Fischer Park Nature Camp on Friday during pick up,â the cityâs parks and recreation department said to parents. âTwo individuals attempted to pick up campers without authorization or permission from the parents.Â
NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - The New Braunfels Police Department announced that Comal River is temporarily closed for recreation. The heavy rains on Saturday forced the closure due to the current flow is currently high, while the poor water clarity and the amounts of debris in the river make it unsafe for tubers at this time. City official said they will reevaluate the river conditions at noon to determine if it will reopen.
