(Taipei City Government photo) TAIPEI (Taiwan News) Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) on Monday (May 24) predicted that a third wave of infections would appear later in the week and said the Level 3 restrictions currently in place across the nation will likely be extended. As COVID-19 cases continued to surge over the weekend, Ko announced Sunday (May 23) that effective the following day, indoor dining would be banned at all eateries in the city. He also declared that rapid testing stations would be opened at all 20 hospitals in Taiwan that have emergency rooms.

After effectively containing the spread of coronavirus for more than a year, Taiwan on Tuesday reported seven local cases, including six with unknown sources of infection. As the country confirmed more COVID-19 cases linked to a spate of infections at China Airlines, New Taipei Mayor Hou You-yi (侯友宜) announced Wednesday (April 28) that two students from Kang Chiao International School in Linkou District have tested positive for antibodies. He said the school will switch to online learning until May 5 and that a total of 193 contacts will be tested for the virus and antibodies.

(CNA photo) TAIPEI (Taiwan News) Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-tsan (鄭文燦) was the first central and local government leader to get vaccinated after AstraZeneca jabs were made available on Monday (April 12) to officials involved in COVID-19 prevention work. Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲), New Taipei Mayor Hou You-yi (侯友宜), and Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) also got vaccinated the same morning. Cheng showed up before 7:50 a.m. at Taoyuan General Hospital to undergo a pre-vaccination assessment and to give consent before getting a shot. He spoke after receiving the injection on his left upper arm, commenting he did not suffer any discomfort.
