More federal aid is on the way for Maine restaurants, bars and other establishments still recovering from the bruising they have sustained during the pandemic.
Starting Monday, food and beverage businesses could begin applying for grants from the $28.6 billion Restaurant Revitalization Fund included in the American Rescue Plan passed by Democrats in Congress and signed into law by President Biden in March.
Establishments that demonstrate losses last year compared with sales in 2019, minus previous rounds of federal assistance, may be eligible for grants of at least $1,000 and up to $5 million per location, with a $10 million limit.
More funding could help many in Maine’s food and beverage industry who are beginning to recover from the massive losses and disruption the coronavirus caused last year despite ongoing financial support from federal, state and local governments.

NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine Ricker Road in New Gloucester remained closed early Monday afternoon after a tractor-trailer carrying some 9,000 gallons of fuel rolled over just before 10:30 a.m.
The driver of the 2017 Freightliner, Valerie Farnham of Derry, New Hampshire, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, according to Captain Kerry Joyce of the Cumberland County Sheriff s Office.
Sheriff s deputies, local firefighters, and Maine State Police were called to the crash at 10:21 a.m. Although initial reports indicated the driver was trapped in the vehicle, she was able to free herself, Joyce said in a release.

Police responded to a tractor-trailer rollover in New Gloucester on Monday.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened on Ricker Road around 10:20 a.m. Monday. The female driver was trapped after the vehicle rolled over, but she was able to free herself.
The trailer was carrying about 9,000 gallons of LP Fuel, but didn’t rupture or leak. The road was expected to be closed for several hours while fuel was removed and the trailer was turned back over.
The driver, Valerie Farnham of New Hampshire, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

NEW GLOUCESTER Paul First will serve as interim town planner while a search is underway to fill the position permanently, town officials announced Friday.

The position is nothing new to First. The Durham man had served as New Gloucester’s town planner from 2009 through February 2014 when he was named full-time town manager, replacing Sumner Field, who retired.
He left the post in the spring of 2017 for personal reasons.
First holds a master’s degree in community land planning from the State University of New York.
