Okker, pending approval by the Florida Board of Governors, which oversees the State University System, replaces Donal O’Shea, who has led New College since 2012. O’Shea announced his retirement from the school, known as Florida’s honors college, in October. Okker is expected to assume the presidency role July 1, according to a statement.

J. Robert “Bob” Peterson and Pasqualina “Lee” Peterson were mainstays in Sarasota s philanthropy scene for years.
Their generosity has continued since their respective passings in 2012 and 2017. Most recently, the Petersons estate gifted $4 million to the New College of Florida the largest donation in the college s 61-year-history.
“We are thrilled and humbled by the extraordinary gift from Bob and Lee Peterson, as well as the support of their children,” said New College President Donal O’Shea in a statement. “This is a game-changer for New College and will make all the difference in the way that we can support our students.”

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - New College of Florida has kicked off its search for a new president. The Collegeâs new leader will succeed President Donal OâShea, who retires in June.
The New College Board of Trustees has appointed a search committee led by Board Chair Mary Ruiz, a 1978 graduate of New College, to conduct the national search for the collegeâs sixth president.
