Mia’s parents John and Lindsay Kimec had planned to have the baby at New Ulm Medical Center. They were surprised she was a new year’s baby because her due date was January 10, but little Mia had different plans.

The first shipment of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine arrived at New Ulm Medical Center on Tuesday. MANKATO â The first major rollout of COVID-19 vaccines in the Mankato area is set to proceed Monday, with health workers at area hospitals receiving vaccinations as soon as that day.
Health workers at risk of getting COVID at work and residents of long-term care facilities will be prioritized for the first wave of vaccinations. Organizations have been training staff and scheduling times in anticipation of distribution day on Monday.
A dose of hope
THUMBS UP: A dose of COVID-19 vaccine may be a ways off yet for most of us, but the fact that some of the vaccine is here, delivered to New Ulm Medical center, can provide us all with something almost as beneficial a dose of hope.
NUMC is a regional repository for the Pfizer vaccine, thanks to the super-cold freezer unit it has. The freezer was built at the hospital as part of the Heart of New Ulm project to save and preserve blood and other samples collected through the program for 10 years. HONUâorganizers never thought is would be used to store a vaccine against the COVID-19 virus.
