cschuldt@nujournal.com NEW ULM The New Ulm Park and Recreation Commission made a recommendation for the 2021-2022 Rec Center fees, Monday. The Rec Center fees saw increases due to the new amenities and improvements to the new Recreation Center currently under construction. With the completion of the new facility Park and Rec is seeking new daily admission and membership fees and establishing a new age structure for fees. There would be four age structures, including infants, youth, adults and seniors. Infants under a year would have free admission. Youths (1-11 years) and seniors (55 and up) would have a $7 daily admission. Adults (12-54) $9 admission. A daily admission with fitness classes is $11. Admission for the playground only or track only is $3.

NEW ULM Electric scooters will be allowed on the bicycle/walking path around town, at least temporarily. The New Ulm City Council unanimously approved a micromobility vehicle sharing operation license for a company called Bird. Bird will bring 50 electric scooters that can be rented and shared throughout the community. In addition to approving the license, the council adopted a new ordinance regulating micromobility sharing operations. The electric scooters being brought to New Ulm are classified as micromobility vehicles. The city ordinance also identifies bicycles and electric-assisted bicycles as micromobility vehicles.

NEW ULM The New Ulm Park and Recreation Commission is tentatively recommending allowing motorized electric scooters on the recreational trail. The Park and Recreation Commission held a special meeting Thursday to review a potential ordinance related to micromobility vehicles. micromobility vehicles are bicycles, electric-assisted bicycles, motorized foot scooters and other transportation devices. Recently the New Ulm City council held the first reading of an ordinance that would regulate renting/sharing businesses and organizations that use micromobility vehicles.

ARS remains active despite pandemic, weather | News, Sports, Jobs

cschuldt@nujournal.com NEW ULM Rain or shine, the staff and volunteers of Adaptive Recreation Services (ARS) find ways to make sure community participants stay active. On Tuesday, staff and volunteers held a drive-thru pickup outside the Community Center during the downpour. Each ARS on-the-go activity is provided in a bag full of small gifts and craft items. This month, the participants were given a “welcome summer” sign to paint. ARS is a nonprofit organization that provides recreational outings and group-oriented programming for teens and adults living with disabilities, in New Ulm and the surrounding area. The COVID pandemic has been hard on ARS. The group has been unable to meet for in-person events since the pandemic started. Fortunately, ARS has lived up to its name and adapted to the situation.
