2 Korean indie films invited to 71st Berlin Film Festival

Two Korean independent films have been invited to the youth-centered Generation competition of this year s Berlin International Film Festival, distributors said Wednesday.
According to the 2021 lineup for the Berlinale, which will be held online from March 1-5, Short Vacation and Fighter will be presented in the Generation s Kplus and 14plus sections, respectively. Berlin s Generation films target children and youth audiences. Short Vacation from directors Kwon Min-pyo and Seo Han-sol, who are making their feature directorial debut, is about four middle school classmates who embark on a journey together to finish their summer assignment, which is to capture the end of the world on their cameras.

While Vietnam’s film industry experienced a miraculous 2020 in terms of sales despite the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, industry insiders believe it is still too early to place bets on its future.
According to Box Office Vietnam, the country’s film industry hit three remarkable milestones last year.
The first milestone was on July 17, when South Korean action-horror film ‘Peninsula’ premiered and, in just two weeks, posted revenues of VND70 billion (US$3 million).
Comparatively, box offices across the country generated a combined turnover of VND57 billion ($2.47 million) between July 1 and 16.
Jallikattu, India s official entry for Oscars, out of race
New Delhi, Feb 10 (UNI) Jallikatu, Malayalam-language movie and India s official entry for Oscars under Best International Feature category, has failed to make the cut.
Jallikattu is not part of the shortlist of 15 features that will be vying for a spot in the final five, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Wednesday.
Directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery and starring Antony Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sabumon Abdusamad and others, the regional flick is an action-drama on a wild bull escaping a slaughterhouse and entering a remote village.
The movie was liked by critics and received widespread acclaim at Toronto International Film Festival and Busan International Film Festival. Director Pellissery won the best director trophy at the 50th International Film Festival of India in 2019.
India’s ‘Jallikattu’ out of Oscar race
Jallikattu is the second Malayalam film to be submitted as India’s entry to the Oscars after Adaminte Makan Abu in 2011.

Zindagi Tamasha did not make it to the Oscars 2021 shortlist.

The 138-minute-long film was selected for Oscar consideration in November last year for the âInternational Feature Film Awardâ category by the Pakistan Committee.
