Strong sponsor support enabled the Marine Vocational Program (MVP) to enhance its ability to teach students marine skills such as sailing with the donation of six sailboats as part of the MVP’s Happy Island Sailing Club. The vessels, one Flying Scot and five Optimist dinghies, are key craft in teaching 10- to 18-year-old students all points of sail, enabling them to learn to sail the craft themselves. The donation of these sailboats proved the successful outcome of a six-month campaign in which sponsor support came in waves.

Caribbean Charter Yacht Show announced for 9-12 December

Written by 11 May 2021 | 14:45 (UTC) The International Yacht Brokers Association (IYBA) and IGY Marinas have announced that they will host the first-ever Caribbean Charter Yacht Show (CCYS) at Yacht Haven Grande in St. Thomas, USVI from 9th-12th December. The event is anticipated to host as many as 50 superyachts, ranging from 24 to 137-metres, as well as charter brokers from all over the world and an array of exhibits, highlighting services available to the charter industry. On the decision to host an event aimed at the charter sector, specifically, IYBA’s President Bob Saxon says, “While the need for certain large scale superyacht trade shows remains, we believe that an opportunity exists to begin to reset the boat show model and annual calendar with more targeted events like this.”

Yacht Haven Grande Named Foreign Trade Zone Author: Apr 30, 2021 Yacht Haven Grande at Island Gardens, an IGY Marinas property in Miami, was designated a Foreign Trade Zone, reportedly the first of its kind in Miami-Dade County. The marina, located between Miami’s downtown and South Beach districts, includes 50 berths that can accommodate yachts to 550 feet. FTZs alleviate duties and taxes on foreign-built vessels and foreign-flagged vessels while berthed. The advantage extends to brokers and buyers, as foreign-flagged vessels can be shown for sale within the FTZ. Yacht Haven Grande will have designated slips for this purpose. “This will be the closest thing to a global marketplace for superyacht sales,” IGY regional director Gili Wojnowich
