No new deaths were reported.
Whether the weekend bump is part of the regular ebb and flow of new cases remains to be seen. New infections jumped overall in California by 48% for the week ending Sunday, according to a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data, with 23,729 new infections confirmed statewide.
In Ventura County, Monday s number was more than double the 46 new cases reported over the weekend on April 5. But it nearly matches the weekend figure from two weeks earlier, when 116 cases were counted.
Weekend tallies in recent weeks remain starkly lower than when virus transmission peaked during December and January. At that time, Monday reports exceeded 3,000 new infections on multiple occasions.
