DTPHX launches $5 voucher program to help downtown Phoenix businesses and restaurants
In an effort to help, DTPHX, an organization that works to promote and support the businesses and restaurants downtown, launched DTPHX Dollars, a $5 same-as-cash voucher that can be used at some 50 businesses in the area.

PHOENIX â It s no secret that restaurants and businesses have struggled throughout the pandemic, but with little to no events or conferences, most people working from home, and, until recently, mostly fan-less sporting events, the foot traffic and lunch crowds that bars, restaurants, and small businesses in downtown Phoenix typically rely on has been stripped for nearly a year.

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Convention, dubbed the largest Hispanic STEM convention in the nation, was held in Phoenix in 2019.
Since early March 2020, Phoenix has lost 79 conventions to cancellations and postponements. The cancellations represent more than 256,000 attendees, 326,000 hotel room nights and more than $235 million in direct visitor spending.
Phoenix has rebooked nearly 30 of its cancelled conventions. In addition, Jerry Harper, deputy director of Phoenix Convention and Venues told the city’s economic development subcommittee that the sales team had an exceptionally productive year.
“They were able to book a record of 72 citywide conventions, with over 311,000 delegates or convention attendees for future business, which was a record for fiscal year activity,” he said.

PHOENIX â Scratch off another event for 2021 Phoenix Fan Fusion.
The yearly pop-culture convention announced Wednesday that because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and after discussions with the City of Phoenix, it has decided not to host year s events convention in May.
It marks back-to-back years that the pandemic has forced the convention to be canceled. The 2020 event was postponed from the spring to the fall and ultimately canceled. Weâve been looking forward to seeing you all at our next convention, unfortunately, weâre going to have to wait just a bit longer, a statement on the Phoenix Fan Fusion Facebook page read.
Phoenix Fan Fusion just announced that it will cancel its 2021 event and reschedule to 2022.
The old dates were May 28 to 30, 2021; the new dates are January 14 to 16, 2022 (which falls on the weekend before Martin Luther King Jr. Day.)
A post on the Fan Fusion Facebook page reads, We’ve been looking forward to seeing you all at our next convention, unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait just a bit longer. Considering the current degree of uncertainty over when mass gatherings can resume, and after consulting with the Phoenix Convention Center and City of Phoenix officials, we will not be holding our May 28-30, 2021 convention. We feel this is the best option, as the safety and well-being of our attendees and participants is of utmost concern to us.
