Best of Both Worlds: Central’s Thomas Set To Wrestle For Keiser University Former UTC Wrestler Nick Soto Welcomes Pounder Grappler To Fold Wednesday, May 5, 2021 - by James Beach Two of Roby Thomas’ favorite places are the beach and the wrestling mat so it was only natural to somehow try to bring the two worlds together. On Wednesday, the Central High School senior succeeded.   Thomas, a three-time TSSAA state tournament qualifier, signed scholarship papers to wrestle for Keiser University in West Palm Beach, Florida where he will wrestle not only for the Seahawks’ mat program, but for former UTC All-SoCon champion Nick Soto, who is in his first year as head coach.

Thompson Self-Reliance Award is given to the female and male senior student who does the best with what she or he has. This year’s winners were Jamie Burenga of Van Wert and Peter McMaster of Lincolnview.

GPS Seniors Inducted Into Cum Laude Thursday, May 6, 2021 As the GPS Class of 2021 completes its senior year, it first recognizes and installs its newest members into Cum Laude Society. Ten seniors join the company of their high-achieving sisters before them as their chosen faculty members pay tribute to their time at GPS. Graduating classmates and family members joined the inductees in the Frierson Theatre while underclassmen, teachers, and friends joined virtually via livestream. English Department Chair Katy Berotti welcomed those in attendance and explained the importance of the day. “The national Cum Laude Society was organized over a century ago to recognize extraordinary scholastic achievement in secondary schools. Each girl we induct today earned this honor by excelling in rigorous GPS courses,” she said.
