Monadnock Ledger-Transcript - Peterborough senior programming has new options

> >Published: 8/3/2021 3:58:00 PM Peterborough Senior programs are back Senior programming is back in Peterborough, with some new additions for adults ages 50 and over. Weekly cribbage, Bingo, Mahjong, Kraft Korner and lunch programming via the Peterborough Recreation Department resumed in-person in May, senior program specialist Gloria Schultz said. In addition, a weekly canasta session on Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon started up last week, she said, and they’re looking for additional bridge players to form a group to play during the same time slot. Mask wearing is optional for vaccinated seniors, and sanitizing remains a priority, Schultz said. Attendance is somewhat down compared to pre-pandemic, she said. “Some people are still reluctant to venture out especially if they have underlying health issues,” she said, while others are taking advantage of the summer season to travel.

Staying active amid pandemic

Staying active amid pandemic Published: 4/24/2021 3:00:06 PM The last year has made staying active tough for many people, but seniors have been hit the hardest, as many in person activities were put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Senior Coordinator Rebecca Bukowski for the Concord Parks and Recreation Department said they are feeling hopeful for summer, with less chance of spreading the virus outside and more people now getting vaccinated against the virus. Bukowski and her husband are both seniors that have searched for ways to stay active and safe during the pandemic. Her husband found playing pickleball was great in the fall when it was outside, but decided to stop during the winter because it was inside and not everyone chose to wear masks. One thing they’ve both done to stay active and fit is swim, which they have had to book ahead of time.

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript - Nine towns band together for Tour of Lights

Monadnock Ledger-Transcript Published: 12/16/2020 5:39:58 PM Towns across Southern New Hampshire are teaming up to provide a bright spot in an otherwise difficult year, with a region-wide holiday lights and decoration tour. Peterborough, Jaffrey, Rindge and Antrim are among the towns participating in this first-annual event, though towns across the southern portion of the state have joined to create a map of a total of 141 decked-out homes for residents to visit and find their favorites. John Kohlmorgen, program coordinator at Peterborough Recreation Department, said his home town of Milford used to have a vigorous house decorating contest, but it had petered off in recent years. He and some other local recreation representatives presented the idea of trying to revive the contest – on an even bigger scale – at a recent regional recreation meeting, and organizers jumped on the opportunity for something fun and that families could enjoy without having to gather in a crowd.
