The General Meeting of Shareholders of Van Oord N.V. was held on 15 April 2021, during which the 2020 Annual Report was presented.
In the Annual Report, Van Oord looked back on a challenging year, providing an overview of the results achieved in 2020, and their strategy.

Even though 2020 was a challenging year, Van Oord managed to achieve a higher revenue, strong operational results, a relatively stable EBITDA, and a very strong cash performance.
According to the release, with the excellent work of its people, Van Oord have realised a solid financial performance. The company recorded EUR 1,677 million in revenue (2019: EUR 1,644 million) and despite the impact of restructuring costs and incidentals, EBITDA remained relatively stable EUR 226 million (2019: EUR 254 million).
Cash performance was very strong, resulting in a positive net cash position at year-end of EUR 24 million (2019: net debt EUR 307 million). The order book remained stable at EUR 3,553 million (2019: EUR 3,610 million).
Van Oord presents Climate Risk Overview
Van Oord has launched the Climate Risk Overview, a global online tool that combines multiple data layers and enables users to identify the world’s most-at-risk coastal areas. The tool is in the public domain and anyone can use it. Van Oord unveiled the new tool during the international Climate Adaptation Summit (CAS) 2021, the company said in its release.
The Climate Risk Overview is the result of a collaboration between Van Oord and the Global Centre on Adaptation. The launch has therefore preceded the ‘official handover’ to co-chair Mr Ban Ki-moon, who will come to the Netherlands later this year. Van Oord is using the tool to drive discussion of knowledge-sharing, public-private partnerships and mobilisation of the necessary financing to deliver solutions to vulnerable areas.

Rotterdam-based cable laying firm Van Oord has placed an order at Fincantieri-owned Vard for the construction of a next-generation cable laying vessel to serve the offshore wind market.
The vessel is scheduled to be delivered from the Vard Brattvaag shipyard in Norway in 2023 using a hull fabricated at Vard Tulcea in Romania.
Van Oord says the vessel will incorporate the latest technologies to reduce its carbon footprint, including biofuel and “future fuel” engines. It will also have flexibility to be powered with e-fuels (e.g. fuels cells charged by renewables), with a large battery pack, a shore supply connection, and a state-of-the-art energy management system.
