Town centre jeweller marks 40th anniversary

× A FAMILY-RUN jeweller is celebrating 40 years in business - after opening the shop in 1981. Kingston Jewellers was founded by Peter Kingston after his retirement from a three-decade-long career in the Parachute Regiment. Peter, along with his wife June and two daughters, Sara and Sally, set up shop in the Victorian Arcade where they have been ever since. “I took over the business when my parents retired in 2011 after 30 years of running the shop,” said Sara. “Over the years we have seen many trends in jewellery from the gold chains and earrings in the 80s and 90s to the bead sensation in the early 2000s - whatever it is we aim to keep our customers pleased.”

Stuart Whitelaw: On being an architect for two architects

I showed the design to Ted Boxall first, who loved it despite the inherent problems of re-subdivision (see later). I then gave Marr a set of prints so that we could have a proper design session. He loved the design and the perspectives, especially the one from the entry ramp. ‘Wow, Sammy! You are a real artist!’ (For obscure reasons I was known as Sammy in the architecture faculty). Marr was going to Penders the next day, so he decided he would look at the drawings in detail while he was there.
