The family of Terry Gilbert, who dedicated his life to making Weston a better place, have paid tribute to their ‘hero’ who has inspired them to continue his legacy of fundraising.
Terry died on July 22, aged 75, after a short battle with cancer. Terry was involved with a number of community groups in the town - helping to organise big events in Weston and raising money for numerous charities.
He is survived by his wife Rose, and their three children, Julie, Suzanne and Jonathan, who have been overwhelmed by the support they’ve received since his death. They said: “As a family, it has been incredible the support we have received. The cards are in their hundreds, which just confirmed how amazing our father was.

Weston RNLI has received a donation worth more than £4,500 from a technology business based in the town.
Staff at Costain, a national infrastructure company in Filers Way, have been fundraising for lifeboat volunteers for two years.
Most of the money was raised in 2019, and collections continued despite the pandemic.
A spokesman for Weston RNLI said: “Each branch of Costain can choose a charity every two years.
“At first the local branch was able to carry out various fundraising ideas, but the pandemic vastly restricted them in the last twelve months.
A STALWART fundraiser from Somerset has been awarded a British Empire Medal for services to maritime safety, as part of the New Year’s Honours List. Peter Elmont has been chairman of the Weston-super-Mare fundraising branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) since 2011, having been a member for more than a decade before that. A statement from the RNLI says: Peter is always encouraging old and new members of his committee to do more and valuable things. He is a role model continually motivating others. During last year’s Remembrance Day service at the war memorial, when the coastguard attendees had to rush off to answer a call, he had such respect in the town that he was asked to lay their wreath for them.
