PTI photo Mukesh Ranjan New Delhi, May 14 Taking note of the dead bodies being washed up along the Ganges in Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Bihar, the West Bengal government has asked officials in the Malda district, where the river enters the state, to keep a strict vigil at the river’s entry point. In the meantime, district authorities in UP and Bihar too have been put on high alert to prevent a repeat of such incidents after a nudging by the National Mission for Clean Ganga and a notice issued by National Human Rights Commission to the two states after dead bodies were found floating in the Ganges.

The plea, filed by lawyers Pradeep Yadav and Vishal Thakre, urged the top court to issue direction the state government cconcerned to conduct post-mortem of the dead bodies.

Image Source: IANS News Kolkata, May 13 : After large number of bodies were fished out of Ganga in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the West Bengal government asked Malda district administration to step up vigil along the river for bodies found floating downstream and cremate them in keeping with protocol. Ganga enters West Bengal through Malda and so surveillance has been increased in the district to restrict the bodies from entering the state. According to senior government officials, Ganga touches the state at Manikchawk block via Rajmahal in Jharkhand and so measures have been taken to stop the floating bodies near Manikchawk so that it doesn t reach Farakka barrage.
