Kamrup Metropolitan Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu declared the entire school premises as containment zone till February 27 to prevent further spread of coronavirus among the teaching staff and students.

Guwahati s Don Bosco School has been sealed for seven days after several teachers tested positive for Covid-19. In an order issued on Sunday, Kamrup Metropolitan Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu declared the entire school premises as containment zone till February 27 to prevent further spread of coronavirus among the teaching staff and students.

GUWAHATI: In major relief for health officials of the state, none of the 300 security personnel and members of the march-past groups, who will be taking part in Tuesday’s Republic Day parade, have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
The parade will be taking place at Khanapara Veterinary College playground, where Assam governor Jagdish Mukhi will be hoisting the tricolour.
Kamrup Metropolitan’s joint director of health services, Ganesh Saikia, said mandatory Covid-19 testing was done among the troops from Assam Police, Veerangana, NCC cadets and from different paramilitary forces who will present at the function. “No positive case has been detected so far. Covid protocols will be enforced strictly and everyone has to wear masks and maintain social distancing norms,” Saikia added.

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has admitted that it has been unable to curb the sale and use of plastic bags below the recommended standard of 50 micron, despite the District Disaster Management Authority’s (DDMA’s) order.
Admitting that the sale and use of plastic bags below the recommended standard are still going on in the market, Nabadeep Changmai, GMC collector, told TOI that the municipal body had been trying its best to prevent the use of such bags. “We have conducted raids at several wholesale markets. But, the thing is. it is a difficult task to do within a short span of time. Moreover, we are not conducting drives regularly. It is sporadic. So, it is possible that sale or use of such plastic bags is still going on in some places in the city,” he added.
Eviction Drive in Guwahati: Roadside Temples Demolished
This comes after the Gauhati High Court (HC) issued an order to the district administration regarding the matter in February this year

Guwahati: It was a very sad moment for many as craine demolished many of the small temples which were set up on footpaths and along the roadside.
The district administration conducted an eviction drive in parts of Guwahati city and demolished several small Shani temples and Hanuman Temples.
These temples or places of worship were built without proper permission from the district administration and the municipal corporation.
People who were managing these temples claimed that they were not even given any notice before the eviction drive.
