Covid protocols will be enforced strictly and everyone has to wear masks and maintain social distancing norms,” Saikia added.

Admitting that the sale and use of plastic bags below the recommended standard are still going on in the market, Nabadeep Changmai, GMC collector, told TOI that the municipal body had been trying its best to prevent the use of such bags. “We have conducted raids at several wholesale markets. But, the thing is. it is a difficult task to do within a short span of time. Moreover, we are not conducting drives regularly. It is sporadic. So, it is possible that sale or use of such plastic bags is still going on in some places in the city,” he added.
