Nafiz Modack, former Anti-Gang Unit member in court on corruption charges

Cape Town â Alleged underworld figure Nafiz Modack and Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) member Ashley Tabisher appeared briefly in the Bishop Lavis Magistrateâs Court yesterday on charges of corruption.
The State alleges that a corrupt relationship existed between the pair as Tabisher, 39, had passed on information relating to police operations to criminals, including his co-accused Modack, 39.
The two appeared in a heavily guarded courtroom.
According to court documents, Tabisher had colluded with another accused, Amaal Jantjies (an associate of Modack), and they were to let Modack know when the AGU would be coming to his addresses because he âwanted to be ready for themâ during November 2019.
Zane Kilian’s lawyer has approached the Western Cape High Court to appeal against a decision by a magistrate not to grant bail to the former professional rugby player implicated in the murder of Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) section commander Lieutenant-Colonel Charl Kinnear.
In the application, Kilian’s advocate Marius Botha argued that the case against Kilian was weak and that the possibility that he would be found guilty was “remote”. Kilian is appealing against the ruling made by magistrate Nonkosi Saba on 18 March, refusing him bail.
The debt collector is charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and contravening the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act.
Police officer Ashely Tabisher appeared in court alongside an alleged underworld figure, Nafiz Modack, on Tuesday morning. He was charged with corruption, together with three accomplices, including Modack.
Suspected underworld figure Nafiz Modack has appeared in court for a second day in a row - this time on corruption charges and charges relating to alleged gang activity.
