Salem-Berne’s roots trace back to prayer meetings led by Benjamin Altenderfer in 1848. Deciding to build their own church associated with the United Brethren in Christ, a two-story structure was built on land donated by John A. Loose in 1871. Deemed unsafe, the building was razed in 1906. The current building was erected reusing many of the bricks from the first building. Submitted photo
