City adding two off-leash dog parks

Both parks have fencing infrastructure that will be (repurposed) for dog park use, McIntosh said. Ingledew Park is a treed park at the intersection of 17th Avenue and Ingledew Street. Malaspina Park is a grassy fenced area, located beside Malaspina Elementary School. The cost to convert the parks for off-leash use was estimated at $25,000, and it was not expected to add significant operational costs. The city s current off-leash dog park program costs the city about $15,000 per year in addition to normal park-related costs, according to a report provided to council. The parks will be the first off-leash dog parks in the Miller Addition and College Heights neighbourhoods.

More off-leash dog parks coming to PG SHARE ON: (Photo from Pixabay.com) Prince George will be getting more dog parks in the future, according to a report to City Council at last night’s (Monday) meeting. An update to the current off-leash strategy for parks says Malaspina, Ingledew, and Heather Road Park are being considered for repurposing. Construction is expected to begin in the coming weeks. The Park Strategy itself was approved in 2017, and focuses on finding ways to repurpose other underutilized or redundant lots into dog parks. This lead city staff to eventually transform Glenview baseball field into a dog park at Corporal Darren Fitzpatrick Bravery Park.

Paint problems delayed pool construction

As crews were erecting the beams, it was observed that the coating on the beams was not properly protecting the steel from corrosion, the city spokesperson said. Installation was halted and components were sent to a local shop for recoating. This work has now been completed and installation of the structural steel components resumed today (Tuesday). The total cost of recoating the beams, and the impact the delay will have on the overall project timeline, had not be determined as of Tuesday, the spokesperson said. Once those details are known, they ll be presented to city council during an open meeting.

City hit with bill to upgrade CN Rail crossing

A constant warning device is necessary to detect varying train speed for the new system to provide consistent warning time to motorists approaching the crossing. The addition of gates will further improve the overall safety at the crossing by reducing driver complacency and address existing roadway geometry and sightline concerns, McIntosh wrote in his report to city council. In 2019, the same system was installed at both the east Otway Road crossing and the Wilson Park access crossing as part on CN’s rail line twinning project. CN Rail received a federal grant to cover half the cost of the upgrade, required under new Transport Canada regulations.
