Canaries blast Apollos 18-6

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com)   The Sioux Falls Canaries tallied 21 hits in a dominant 18-6 victory over the Houston Apollos Friday night at The Birdcage. The Birds will play Houston twice on Saturday at 4:05 pm and 6:05 pm and will close the series at 2:05 pm on Sunday. Angel Ventura (2-1) pitched six innings and allowed six hits and five runs. He struck out four en route to his second win. Colby Wyatt entered the game in the seventh inning to close things out. He allowed three hits and three runs and notched the first save of his professional career. The offense started off with five runs in the first inning and never looked back. The Birds (9-6) ran across home plate 18 times. The 18 runs are the highest single-game total in the American Association this season. The Canaries racked up 13 base hits, six doubles, and two home runs. The 21 hits were also a new high in the American Association this year.

The RedHawks got on the board early with Leo Pina scoring on a passed ball in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Apollos answered in the top of the fourth inning when Blake Berry scored on a Daniel Aldrich RBI single tying the game at 1-1. Fargo-Moorhead took the lead back on a Will Zimmerman solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make it 2-1. Zimmerman added to the ‘Hawks lead with an RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth making it 3-1 Fargo-Moorhead.

Optimist Clubs names November students of the month

Optimist Clubs names November students of the month By Jay Hinton Glen Rose Reporter GLEN ROSE  It turned out to be a family affair when the Glen Rose Optimist Club handed out its awards for the month of November. Glen Rose seniors Ashlynn and Blake Perry, who are twins, were honored as the Glen Rose High School Optimist Club Students of the Month, while Carly Wright and Conner Jaquess were honored at the Glen Rose Junior High Optimist Club Students of the Month. Wright is a member of NJHS, a member of the A-B honor roll, and she is taking two high school credit classes. She is also involved in athletics (volleyball, basketball and track) and she is also involved with the FAA.
