SHREWSBURY The landmark Edgemere Drive-in Theatre sign that stood on Route 20 for decades has exited the scene at least for now.
The classic blue-and-yellow sign once announced the movies being screened at the 66-year-old drive-in until its closing in 2004, and served as a reminder of Shrewsbury s rich history.
The sign was removed before site work took place on the property, which is now being redeveloped as Edgemere Crossing at Flint Pond, a residential and commercial project expected to open this fall.
According to Michael Buckley, the owner of the property, two Shrewsbury locals reached out to Shrewsbury Town Manager Kevin Mizikar with interest in restoring the sign.

Massachusetts firefighters broke out some heavy equipment Friday to save a dog that had fallen through the ice in a Shrewsbury pond: their hovercraft.
The Shrewsbury Fire Department shared a photo of the rescue, in which a firefighter waded out into the water from the vehicle to help get the dog, named Rocky, to safety from the middle of Flint Pond, officials said. And the dog seemed to appreciate it. Once he saw the hovercraft, he pretty much decided on his own, that s where he s going, said firefighter Brendan Palumbo, who assisted his colleague Kenny Massaro from the vehicle.
